Welcome back to my blog!
Today I want to make an overview of the various types of nails that can occur in front of us, in order to recognize them and then choose the best treatment.
Let’s begin!
Square nail
In general, this nail is the most beautiful to treat.
It has full sides, so the splits are more unlikely.
It has a surface that appears healthy and pink, with the right amount of cuticles.
It has a soft c curve, the stress area occurs more anteriorly, towards the free edge and these are average robust nails.
Oval nail
There are two types of oval nails.
One type has the same characteristics that we mentioned before the square nail, so it is not problematic.
There is also another type.
This oval shape, does not have the sides of the nail. This can cause nail breakages.
The surface appears redder than usual, this is because they are thin and dry nails.
They also tend to grow downward and may have abundant cuticles.
The c-curve is not gentle but very arched.
The stress point is closer to the skin.
Usually we find these nails on large hands.
Fingernail narrow at the top and wide at the bottom
Unlike the others, these nails do not have a curve in the stress zone.
They are nails that mainly tend to grow upwards, therefore they take a tendentially concave shape.
These nails are very thin, so they will appear redder than normal.
They are present on those with small hands and small nails.
Onychophagic nails
An onychophagic person will not have nails long enough to make us understand in the beginning what foil it was.
But you can understand it from the nail bed.
If it is very small, and the nail is already very much moved to the free margin, then in all probability this person had small nails that go upwards.
Instead those who have a larger nail bed, with a fingertip that is swollen and going to protect the nail, probably had a square nail.
These are the most common nails we can find in front of us.
Obviously what I wrote may have exceptions and not always be true, but generally speaking this is so.
I hope this article has been helpful.
Next week I will talk about what products to use on each type of nail, in order to guarantee the best durability and adhesion.
